#Gabon: World Climate Summit: Ali Bongo calls for mobilization


 

LIBREVILLE (AGP) - Gabonese President Ali Bongo Ondimba on Tuesday called in New York (United States), mobilization of pure international community to unite and take action against climate change and poaching, according to a statement Officer of the Presidential communications reached Wednesday at the AGP.


The Gabonese head of state, was speaking on the sidelines of the General Assembly of the United Nations which opens this Wednesday in New York.

The urgency of collective awareness

Following agreements in Durban in 2011, lorsde the 17th UN Conference on Climate Change (COP 17), which are planning to establish by 2015 a global pact to reduce emissions of greenhouse gas emissions, the world lesdirigeants were invitésen upstream to announce measures audacieusespour fight against climate change.

Ali Bongo Ondimba for his part called for a collective awareness in his address to the UN summit on climate. "Why are we still too passive and too little solidarity to offer current and future generations a common strategy to fight against climate change? "Has he said at the meeting.

In particular, he expressed satisfaction that Gabon has implemented since 2002 a policy of sustainable forest management. Moreover, the head of state invited to Libreville on 18 and 19 March 2015 all the southern countries and private sector partners in the Initiative in southern countries to tackle climate change.

Acting quickly and together for the well-being of people during the thematic debate on climate, health and employment co-chaired by Gabon and Finland, the President expressed the need to work together so decisively to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the people. Climate change and deforestation have disastrous consequences in the long term could lead to mass migration and destabilize an entire continent.
